Well, at least you can't accuse Irish Premier League fans of completely ignoring the League of Ireland.
Tonight's clash between Finn Harps and Longford Town in the Airtricity Premier Division is, incredibly sponsored by the " Donegal Branches of the Liverpool & Manchester United Supporters' Clubs". You couldn't make it up.
Here is the full statement behind the sponsor on the Finn Harps website:
In a unique partnership, the Donegal branches of the Liverpool and Manchester United supporters clubs are joint sponsors of this Saturdays SSE Airtricity Premier League game between Finn Harps and Longford Town at Finn Park (kick-off 8pm). Both branches have many members within their ranks that are regular match goers to the Finn Park and supporting and promoting Finn Harps is very much to the forefront of both supporters groups in the county.
While we are glad to see people willing to sponsor games in the League of Ireland - and advocate as much money being pumped into the league as is possible - this is all a little too ironic. Bitterly so.
