Over on the Euro 2016 Facebook group, we've been running a bit of a search to find Ireland's greatest fan from Euro 2016. While there are some more of the more quiet spoken variety, largely, the nominations have been from the group labelled 'jaysus they're great craic on holiday but you'd hate to live with them'.
Amp man, horse, any number of France's temporary army of street sweepers. You know the kind we're talking about. And don't get us wrong, they absolutely deserve to be recognised and celebrated. They've entertained the nation at all times of the day and night but along with that kind of recognition, it's just as nice to be able to pay tribute to this kind of carry on.
As happened quite a few times during the course of Ireland's stay in France, Declan Brennan took to the Facebook group to try and help out a member of the green army.
Thankfully, John's friends were found and all was well that ended well. Declan was suitably commended and thanked in the group at the time but John's son William has today given a more clear picture of just what happened in Lille.
A saint indeed. All we can say is fair play to Declan. A thoroughly decent act that absolutely deserves to be recognised.
