For the first time, Ireland qualified for their second European Championships in a row with an almost unnervingly comfortable 2-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina in Dublin.
Roy Keane smiled, Eamon Dunphy wept and Jon Walters put his name in the Ballon D'Or hat with two goals - the second a sublime finish from a deflected Robbie Brady cross.
Here's how the rest of the world - and in particular Britain - reacted to Ireland reaching France next summer:
Congrats to @FAIreland on qualification to the Euros.. There will be a few Guinnesses flowing tonight!!

How beautifully poetic that a dodgy handball goes Ireland's way in such a vital game...

Delighted for Ireland & Walters but mainly for Martin O'Neil after the Sunderland job. Excellent managerial record over 25 years.

Well done Republic of Ireland. Any tournament a better place for having them there.

I've written a few stupid pieces in my time.. But June's about Martin O'Neill's career petering out with a shite Ireland team is up there.

Brilliant result for the Irish and it's only right that France should be the home of the Euros next year. We will win together 🇫🇷

Congratulations to the Irish. Euro's will be better for them in it. I'm almost sure I even saw Roy Keane smiling in the pitch afterwards.
