There's no doubt about it, it's been a good weekend for Irish football. Two average performances but two crucial wins coupled with Scotland's failure to pick up a single point and, all of a sudden, things get swept under the carpet very quickly.
However, Martin O'Neill shouldn't have counted on universal congratulations in the aftermath of the 1-0 win over Georgia. His favourite topics are still fair game and that does of course include Jack Grealish. After Roy Hodgson firmly put the ball in the Aston Villa midfielder's court ahead of his expected international decision at the end of this month, the Ireland manager decided on a sarcastic response.
Plenty will say that the Grealish situation has long since become embarrassing but, when O'Neill delivered the kind of quote that is impossible to read without biting sarcasm running through your head, it crept into a whole new level of awkwardness.
That’s encouraging, that’s encouraging. Roy’s not going to hang around. Well done Roy, putting the pressure on.
Don't get us wrong, we've long since said that we should do whatever necessary to get Grealish to sign on the dotted line as it were but there's got to be a more dignified way than this.
