One last tribute to the most venerated people on the planet - the Irish football fans.
It is fair to say that they are the most venerated people on the planet at this stage. More venerated certainly than Nobel Peace Prize winning alumni. After all, Henry Kissinger doesn't follow the Irish football team.
Red Cross workers do a great job but their soundness hasn't yet been tested by alcohol. By contrast, the soundness of the average Irish football fan has easily survived the assault of, in many cases, vast quantities of alcohol.
With a tone of wistful regret, L'Equipe said goodbye to the Irish fans.
The Irish won the stands, according to the French sporting bible. We believe this was also an honour conferred on the Irish fans following Euro 2012.
We should say thank you to the French too, especially those Parisian motorists who were such good sports about being held up in traffic and having their car roofs mounted on the eve of the opening game against Sweden.
Thumbs up for Irish fans from L'Équipe today. "Ireland won, in the stands. We will miss their fans." pic.twitter.com/k6l8yupcBn
