Irish football's problems go much further than Giovanni Trapattoni.

Trap has to go now probably as his position is becoming untenable but Irish footballs problems are much deeper.

Just take a look at the current crop of players compared to of the past. With no disrespect meant we just don't have the quality anymore. An overhaul of coaching at underage level should be the priority. If we accept changing the manager will solve all the problems its an easy cop out for Delaney and the blazers and won't force them to look at how we are developing our footballers.

Why are no Irish players playing for top teams anymore, why have we only one player who plays at Champions league level?

Who cares if Roy Keane is volatile?

Keane would be the man to revamp the whole setup from top to bottom.

Who cares if he's volatile, we've had yes men since the Charlton era.

He would have the respect of our players and will bring back our fighting Irish pride. Give him a chance, Redknapp would only be interested in the senior side, McCarthy had a chance and left behind a squad of shite just like Charlton and trap.

Delaney must go also, he is not a football man and accounts are in bad way. He also allows catastrophes such as Trap having press conference while Sligo play for the title. This along with his drink induced embarrassments make us look amateur.

Jim McGuinness anybody?

Keane, no, McCarthy, no. Not the way they set their teams to play football.

There is a team there good enough to compete with the top teams. I'd like to see Harry given a go. Get Jimmy McGuinness in alongside him for pre match analysis. If he's good enough to be linked with Liverpool and Everton, why not Ireland?

I'm just saying that if he would be good enough for a premier league team, why not Ireland?

Trap has to go. Whatever has happened recently is beyond explanation. Three years ago I watched in croker as we could have beaten Italy, instead drawing 2-2. Long ball system is prehistoric, but it worked that day, just needed someone to hold it up and run down play. That is a simple play in football. That seems to have gone missing under trap. There's no movement off the ball, passing is rubbish.

I'm not saying Harry Redknapp or Jim McGuinness are the solution, who is? Gus Hiddink wanted the Irish job a few years back, but he's back managing club level.

We need a decent manager, fresh ideas, and a clean slate. Fai needs to look at themselves as well. Delaney thinks he's a boy band member.

We need to think long term.

Any manager that replaces him will be a short term fix.

What is required,in the long term, is a complete restructuring of the F.A.I and how football is coached in this country at junior level. A centre of excellence and the adoption of a firm footballing philosophy is badly required.

Sadly, we are a long way away from achieving any of this. The F.A.I are more concerned with paying off the €46 million debt owed for their share of the Aviva Stadium bill.

Until that is paid off, and the right people are in place, football in Ireland will continue to stagnate and regress.
