Laurence Heytesbury wishes the Euro's and Balls.ie goodbye.

Here’s a stat you may or may not know. Ireland had more possession against Italy than England did. Interesting, right? No, no it’s not interesting. How do I know it, because fifty-seven people have told me this morning. Why do they care, I have no idea. Why do I care, because fifty-seven people have told me this morning.

There were Ireland flags still hanging from windows and strapped to the wing mirrors of cars this weekend, like Christmas decorations that are still knocking around in January. Although, now I suspect people were leaving them up pretending they were Italy flags.

Venue News - I shunned The Leeson Lounge last night after they turned down my idea of dishing out free lasagne for the match. Instead I ordered a pizza at home and watched the match with a Geordie and a red-headed Irish rugby fan in an Italy jersey.

The Polish pizza delivery guy (he was Polish, not the pizza) called me three times to ask for directions, the last time he ended the call by saying “Sorry, your English accent is that clear, I cannot understand you”. This is the life of an Englishman in Dublin.

Football News - What can you say about Pirlo, he has the experience of eight lifetimes etched into his face and he called on all of it to score the sublimest of penalties.

I actually applauded Parker when he went off, hey, when you’re out of your depth, you’re out of your depth. At one point, Pirlo just rolled the ball back and forward under his foot and Parker ran in a full circle.

Goodbye to Scott Parker, goodbye to the Euros, goodbye to balls.ie. I am off to figure out the mathematics of a twenty-four team tournament. Eight groups of three?
