FIFA is disintegrating before our eyes. While it's highly enjoyable to watch the shitstorm gradually discredit every one of these sketchy bureaucrats, we, like many people, wonder what the realpolitik behind these machinations is. Remember it was American Chuck Blazer (photographed above) who unleashed this chaos upon football. Some had suggested that Blazer's move against Bin-Hammam and Warner last week might eventually result in a re-elected Blatter taking the 2022 World Cup away from Qatar and giving it to the United States. A nice theory, but may I suggest something far more grave? What if Blazer's intention is not to assist Blatter, but destroy football itself? Anyone who has traveled in America knows there is an innate suspicion of football in certain sectors of the US. Many see the sport as unAmerican, an unlikely agent of socialism and European existentialism. At the moment, football is enjoying skyrocketing popularity in America. So what if Blazer is actually working on behalf of the CIA and/or the State Department to undermine football's global stature and preserve American values both home and abroad? Luckily, football is stronger than FIFA.
