It happened. It actually happened.
England have been eliminated from Euro 2016 by... Iceland.
As soon as it became apparent that England would be facing off against Gylfi Sigurdsson and his pals, non-England fans everywhere thought "Wouldn't it be gas if Iceland won?". And gas it was. England has 12 cities that have bigger populations than Iceland, and who doesn't love a good underdog story?
The reaction online has, predictably, been immense, so here are some of the highlights.
I haven't been this embarrassed to be English since.... well, since Friday morning. #ENGICE

Hodgson so tactically inept again all tournament. How he kept his job after 2014 WC debacle still baffles me!

Looks like Roy could actually be working in Iceland by the week's end...

You can blame a manager all day but when top premier league players can’t pass water or trap a bag of cement then what chance you got ?

This could be one of the greatest football stories ever told.

The worst defeat in our history. England beaten by a country with more volcanoes than professional footballers. Well played Iceland.

Just incredible.
