Many footballers have justified their taking triumphant, partially-naked selfies after a 2-1 win at home to West Brom as a way of getting closer to their fans, with the product placement an evident coincidence.
This, in most cases, is a load of bollocks, as if any footballer did wish to get close to the bulk of his online followers, he would be forced to take out thousands of restraining orders against this crazy, braying mob.
Part of this illusion is that all players are in charge of their accounts, which has traditionally been perceived by many as a falsehood, and instead is the preserve of some faceless PR company.
That perception today proved to be true in the cases of Ilkay Gundogan and Mesut Ozil.
Ozil wished to tweet his delight at meeting up with the Arsenal squad on their U.S. tour following his extended summer holiday, but it somehow ended up on the timeline of his German teammate and Man City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan:
Whoops.
We would have got away with it too, were it not for pesky incompetence.
