United Passions was officially confirmed today as the lowest grossing film in American history. It fell short of the magic $1000 mark, earning just $918 in total.
We would dub it a Golden Raspberry Award favourite but for the fact that it would probably bring that award into disrepute. It may prove too poor even to earn a Golden Raspberry award.
Director Frederic Auburtin is consumed with contrition over his role in the whole enterprise. And he has not been shy about prostrating himself before the critics.
It appears poor Frederic has a rather excessive sense of his own infamy. He poured out his soul to the Hollywood Reporter.
Now I'm seen as bad as the guy who brought AIDS to Africa or the guy who caused the financial crisis. My name is all over [this mess] and apparently I am a propaganda guy making films for corrupt people.
Auburtin previously claimed he tried to implant 'ironic' bits into the film under the noses of his paymasters, which served to undermine the official narrative.
These appear to have been missed by all the critics.
Auburtin has pleaded for understanding. Like the small number of critics forced to watch the film, he believes he is also a victim in all of this.
I'm a victim of the game. It's a disaster, but that is not the point, I accepted the job, but I was not paid to be the Che Guevara of the sports business. Please don't make me the guy responsible for the fact that FIFA is rotten.
The man who portrayed Blatter, renowned English actor Tim Roth, is not especially proud of his part in the film. He says he hasn't even seen the finished product and confesses that the role would probably have his father 'turning in his grave.'
