It had to happen, didn't it. Following on from his already infamous comments about Iceland in their Group F opener where he slammed the tiny island's "small mentality" and said "they are not going to do anything in this competition."
Well so far, they've done as much as Ronaldo's Portugal. The former Manchester United star has become even more hated than he previously was. He stepped up in the 78th minute after winning a penalty for his side against Austria and hit the post. Twitter, predictably, exploded.
It was made better just minutes later when the Real Madrid man leaped to net a header - that was immediately ruled out for offside.
The schadenfreude was undeniable.
