Some Man Utd fans on Twitter still pine after Cristiano Ronaldo so much that they started a whip-around on the social media platform to raise enough money for their club to to buy back Real Madrid's star player.
The movement even has it's own hashtag (#PoundForCR7). It was possibly started by the account @UnitedNews99, which has now been deleted. The account posted several tweets asking for promotion of the idea.
“@united99news: @mennewsdesk Hi can you support my #Poundforcr7 campaign. All #mufc fans give £1 for CR7 to come home.” Hahahahaha

United are clearly hard up financially at the moment and desperately required crowdfunding initiatives like this to finance the purchase of player. I mean, it's not as if Forbes announced last month that they were the first sports team to be valued at $3 billion or anything.
Ridiculously, some fans really bought into the idea.

Although #poundforCR7 is a great idea, we'd need about 100,000,000 of them. #mufc

And of course, some others jumped on the hashtag to make fun of the idea.
"Hi Real Madrid. We've got ... £54.73 and a chocolate button. No, hang on, I ate the button. What's your Paypal plz?" #PoundforCR7
