Szczesny Likely To Avoid Ban For His Gesture On Wednesday Night

Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny looks likely to avoid a ban for making what looked very much like a wanker sign after being sent off on Wednesday night. He will already miss the second leg for taking down a clean-through Arjen Robben, but an extra game could have been added if he was hit with an additional charge of unsporting behaviour.

It is understood that referee Nicola Rizzoli did not include a mention of the incident in his report - a necessary factor for UEFA to extend the length of Szczesny's suspension.

It's still pretty unclear who the gesticulation was referring to - Robben for his reaction? The referee? - it was always going to be red. Perhaps he was having a go at himself for getting caught in no-man's-land and mistiming his advance off his line.
