Less than two years ago, after Wales shocked Belgium at the Euros, a beaming Chris Coleman told the world, "don't be afraid to have dreams in football".
Today, he has been relegated to League One with Sunderland in what amounts to a deep indictment of football and dreams. After their lengthy Premier League spell came to an end with relegation last year, the club have slid through the Championship and are now in the third tier of English football.
The club is a complete farce, and is at the vanguard of the Banter Heuristic - by which is meant that whatever the outcome of whatever scenario a person(s) is in, the outcome will be the one most closely related to ba**er.
The latest came today against Burton Albion, and was foreshadowed by Sunderland fan, Andy Dawson.
Obviously, that's what happened.
Sunderland were beaten 2-1 at home to Burton. They took the lead through Paddy McNair, but then contrived to concede twice in the final five minutes, with the equaliser coming from Darren Bent. He was certainly in no mood for a muted celebration...
