Castles quotes no one directly and appears to have listed every possible misgiving that anyone in Old Trafford could have about Moyes remaining in charge. The Glazers, for instance, are "said to be concerned that the Scot will continue to damage the value of their asset" while Ed Woodward is "conscious that his effectiveness in the new post has been assessed in the context of results delivered by another man's choice as manager." For the shareholders, Moyes was not the "preferred choice." Moyes decisions, furthermore, have "fomented grave internal dissent within United's coaching, scouting and recruitment staff."
Castles alleges that many United players are fed up with Moyes' suggestions that the squad he inherited was in need of rebuilding.
"On the contrary, they believe the Scot's errant tactics and man management have caused the team's decline," Castles writes.
According to Castles, senior Manchester United players are considering (in a move that would be reminiscent of The Damned United's portrayal of Brian Clough's time in charge of Leeds United) making a direct request to the board that they get rid of Moyes.
Senior players talk of Moyes' failure to understand the essence of Manchester United, and the confusions produced by his management following years of crystal-clear leadership under Ferguson...The level of discontent with Moyes among United's squad is such that there is now discussion about making a direct request to the board that he be replaced.
