If the World Cup proved anything, it's that Daniel Sturridge is a much better striker than he is a sandwich hawker. Considering he didn't do a whole lot on the pitch in Brazil, that's saying quite a bit. The Liverpool and England striker popped up on tellys all over the country trying to persuade us that munching down on Subways was a key component in his transformation from precocious youth to international footballer.

And his association with the sandwich makers hasn't stopped with questionable ads, this time he's even brought a friend along. Liverpool have been spending their pre-season in Boston and Subway spotted an opportunity. They convinced Sturridge and Liverpool teammate Jordan Hernderson to drop in to their Tremont St. shop in Boston to pull on some plastic gloves and put in a shift.
One Liverpool fan who enjoyed the experience was Donegal man Joe Sweeney. The Dungloe GAA player and nephew of former All-Star Adrian Sweeney is in Boston for the summer and, according to Donegal Daily, was 'left stunned' when he popped into Subway for a sandwich.
Sweeney posted some pictures of the encounter to his Facebook account and he seemed pretty happy with Subway's new employment policy.
It's not everyday Daniel Sturridge makes you a subway. They were both sound and were having good craic with the customers in the shop, and to be fair Sturridge made a great Subway too, so it was all good. He’s a brilliant player and he has a cracking left foot, although I think Uncle Eddie’s was better.
Sweeney failed to mention what sandwich he ended up purchasing. Chicken teriyaki with extra peppers just seems too obvious so we'll take a guess at a Spicy Italian.
