West Brom manager Steve Clarke has disclosed that Steven Reid played the entire second half of their Premier League game against Arsenal on December 8th with a fractured fibula.

That was the same game in which Santi Cazorla dived to win a penalty when the referee believed a challenge from Reid had brought Cazorla down in the penalty area.

Clarke said:

It’s incredible – you can imagine the pain the boy was in. We didn’t release the injury but it was a fractured fibula which he got against Arsenal. But he played on for 45 minutes with a broken leg. That tells you the character of the boy. I just put that in to show the strength he has because people think that Reid is always injured

Reid made his comeback against QPR in the FA Cup 3rd round replay earlier this week but is likely to miss the game against Aston Villa this weekend.

Reid went to see the doc yesterday, he’s been out a number of weeks. He has an incredible mental strength and he wants to play every game. He has another knock but he keeps saying ‘I’m OK gaffer’ – I’m telling him to wait, there’s another 16 games to go
