Scotland manager Steve Clarke has confirmed that former Irish international Steven Reid will join his backroom team.
Reid played under Clarke at both Reading and West Brom and was confirmed as part of the team alongside Kilmarnock's Alex Dyer as they continue preparations for the Euro 2020 qualifiers.
Reid had been involved with West Brom but left after they lost the Championship play-off semi-final. It will be his first involvement in international coaching, have worked with Crystal Palace and Reading in the past.
Speaking during his squad announcement today, Clarke explained why he invited the former Irish international in.
Steven's a little bit younger, so he'll have a better handle on the mentality of the younger players in the dressing room, and he's also an experienced international player who's been involved in World Cup campaigns and actually played in a World Cup for the Republic so I think he's a good addition.
He was helping out at West Brom towards the end of last season, but when they didn't make the step up to the play-off final Steven was looking for a job and thankfully I've been able to give him one.
Scotland will take on Cyprus and Belgium next month in Group I.
