Fair play to Sean O'Rourke because this morning's interview with Steven Gerrard was one of the most entertaining we've heard for quite some time.
Gerrard is not the most sparkling personality out there. That's by no means a criticism, for long enough he's done his talking on the pitch, but when a microphone is placed in front of him he's not exactly what you'd call animated.
He gets through his media duties with minimal fuss and he moves on to what he'd rather be doing. Gerrard has been in Dublin this week to promote his autobiography and he dropped in to the RTÉ studios to have a chat on the Sean O'Rourke Show.
It was going along as you'd expect.
He was asked about Robbie Keane's experience at Liverpool and he explained how 'Rafa trying to change the way Robbie played' was the primary reason that things didn't work out for the Ireland international at Anfield. According to Gerrard, Keane was brought in to play off a front man. However, Rafa had different ideas and Keane was effectively on to a loser as soon as he joined.
All well and good. The interview moved on, O'Rourke asked about the slip, about Brendan Rodgers and Gerrard was becoming increasingly monotone through to when a question about Chelsea's current predicament was asked.
It's fair to say Gerrard was having none of that one. O'Rourke quickly moved on and asked why Gerrard would never allow a Man United shirt in his house. Again, 'frosty' is probably a decent way to describe the response.
This Gerrard interview on Radio 1 is painful.
