He might be counting down the days until the end of his Liverpool career but Steven Gerrard has already held talks with Brendan Rodgers about joining his backroom team. The Liverpool captain will play his final game at Anfield against Crystal Palace on Saturday but it seems unlikely that will be the last time we see Gerrard in an official capacity.
Gerrard is heading to LA Galaxy next month on a 18 month contract and it seems certain that, once that contract ends, he will be back with Liverpool in a full time coaching capacity.
Speaking yesterday, the Liverpool captain was somewhat coy about the plans but it seems he could be back with Liverpool to learn from Brendan Rodgers as soon as January during the MLS off-season.
I have had a couple of brief conversations; I had a chat with Tom Werner and one recently with Brendan about what I am thinking about, short term and long term. But there is certainly nothing in detail. I have started on the coaching ladder but we will have to wait and see.
So, if Brendan Rodgers is still in the job in a year and half you can bet every penny you have, you'll hear rumours of Gerrard taking over every single time there's a bad result. Sounds like a great plan.
