Liverpool supporters are dreading the day that Jurgen Klopp could walk away from Anfield. The German has improved the fortunes of the club drastically since his arrival in 2015, acting as the driving force as they reestablished themselves amongst the European elite.
When Klopp does eventually move on, many have speculated that Steven Gerrard will be the man to take his place. The former Liverpool captain has done a decent job with Rangers so far and his eyes will surely be on a return to his boyhood club in the future.
Klopp said earlier this week that Gerrard would be his choice to replace him, and Gerrard has now responded to those comments.
While he was flattered, he admits that he hopes that Klopp sticks around for years to come.
"Every Liverpool fan on the planet endorses what I'm saying. We want him to stay for many, many years." 🔴🇩🇪

I was surprised and flattered at the same time. But when you read the quote really carefully, like I have, it said, 'if I get sacked tomorrow' he thinks Steven Gerrard should be the next Liverpool manager.
Jurgen Klopp's not getting sacked tomorrow. I don't want him to get sacked tomorrow. He's doing a fantastic job.
I'm a Liverpool fan. I'm sure every Liverpool fan on the planet endorses what I'm saying here. We want him to stay for many, many years and bring as much success to our club as possible.
But yeah, it was very flattering at the same time.
If Gerrard is to succeed Klopp at Liverpool, he still has plenty to prove. He will likely need to end Celtic's dominance in Scotland or prove himself in the Premier League before he is seen as a genuine option.
Either way, with the success Liverpool are experiencing under their current manager, it is unlikely to happen anytime soon.
