Question. Has Anfield ever seen a more complete individual performance in a massive European game than Mo Salah's against Roma? Salah scored twice, set up another two goals and was the progenitor of a general chaos in the Roma ranks virtually every time he touched the ball.
The last man to deliver that kind of performance at that level for Liverpool is probably Steven Gerrard, whose drag-Liverpool-through-in-spite-of-lads-like-Albert-Riera-and-Djimi-Traore performances in Europe are innumerable.
Gerrard had a watching brief last night, sitting in a BT Sport studio alongside Gary Lineker, Rio Ferdinand and Frank Lampard. BT kept a camera trained on the erstwhile Liverpool captain throughout an astonishing game, with Salah's virtuoso performance prodding plenty of celebration from Gerrard..
Here's the video proof. (Note that for the first goal that Frank Lampard got on his feet too - further evidence of the pair's inability to learn that at least one of them should remain sitting when the other isn't).
Player, coach, pundit.
But most of all Steven Gerrard is a die-hard Liverpool fan ??
