Steven Gerrard has been a hit since his appointment at Aston Villa, although it's fair to say that is hasn't been all plain sailing during his time at the club.

While Villa do look like a much more promising outfit under his tutelage, they have also been very inconsistent at times. Today provided another example of that, with the team failing to impress during their 1-0 loss to Arsenal at Villa Park. It was a result they could have little complaints about.

Their manager was certainly frustrated after the game.

Steven Gerrard calls out BT Sport interviewer

Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Steven Gerrard was visibly frustrated with the way his side had performed for much of the contest. He seemed to take that out on interviewer Des Kelly, calling him out for some of his questions during their post-match briefing.

Kelly: I don't think you got a shot on target until right at the death there?

Gerrard: Yeah that's exactly how I described the game to you, is it not? Not good enough first half then improved in the second half. We pushed at the end and some good crosses in, crated more interesting moments.

I thought the performance was a lot better second half. Well done for spotting that.

Kelly: Since April you've made a lot of progress, but you've lost to Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Arsenal, so there is still that gap there that you've got to close.

Gerrard: Well done Des for recognising that. If you had asked me that question I would say that the league doesn't lie. I'd say that Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Man United, West Ham, Wolves at the moment are ahead of us for a reason and there's a gap.

That's what we're trying to do. If we're going to take one of them places, we've got to be positive and decisive, we've got to believe in it. We've got to go and grab it off them, really believe in what we're doing and keep learning, evolving, and get support from up above. We've got to go and grab it off them.

I do like the way you worked those things out pretty quickly.

Kelly: I think you're aggressive in the interview and you should tell your players to go and do the same thing.

Gerrard: I'll tell you what I am in the interview. I'm emotional, I care and don't like getting beat.

I actually thought your questions would be a little bit more better in all honesty. No disrespect Des, I'm not making it personal.

You've just said to me that there's a gap to Manchester United and City, blah blah. We know that. You also said we got one shot on target towards the end of the game, that's how I described the game as well.

Steven Gerrard has been known to air his frustrations in public during his spell at Rangers, although it is rare we see a manager speak to an interviewer in this manner.

Aston Villa currently sit in ninth position, although today's result seriously dented their outside chances of securing a European place for next season.
