Caoimhín Kelleher is facing into a big summer.
Now 24-years old, it is clear that he needs to be playing regular games in order to further his development. However, that is highly unlikely to come at Liverpool where he acts as reserve for one of the best goalkeepers in world football.
It had been said that the Cork man was keen to secure a move away from Anfield this summer, although Jurgen Klopp seems less keen on that particular idea. He recently said it would take a 'crazy offer' to prise his no. 2 away from Merseyside during the upcoming transfer window.
Stephen Kenny will certainly be keen to see the player move if the chance is available.
Ireland boss Stephen Kenny drops hint on future of Caoimhín Kelleher
Caoimhín Kelleher was included in the Ireland squad this afternoon for the upcoming games against Greece and Gibraltar, where it is expected that he will act as backup to Gavin Bazunu.
It is likely that the Liverpool player will have to move elsewhere is order to have any chance of moving ahead of the Southampton man in the pecking order.
Speaking at his squad announcement press conference this afternoon, Stephen Kenny hinted that Kelleher is likely to leave Anfield this summer going by discussions he has had with the player.
Caoimhín has never let us down. He is a very talented goalkeeper.
It looks like he will be on the move this summer and it can only benefit him because he needs to play games. He has been starved of games this season and that has been a problem for him.
He is very talented and it's hard to leave Liverpool because it's such an iconic club. He's not so young now, he's 24 and he needs to play. He knows that.
We have spoken regularly over the last year and he knows that. He knew that earlier in the season, I think he has been in dialogue with Liverpool about that for a long time.
It most likely will happen you would think in the summer...
I would full expect it. It's not right normally that you speak about a player moving, but he's at a stage where he is behind one of the best goalkeepers in the world and it's not going to get any easier.
You can't improve not playing. He knows that and has for a while. It's not an easy process you go through at a club like that and he knows that.
He needs to go and play regularly. He needs to.
The previous season was a degree of success for him with winning the Carabao Cup and playing a lot of games. They were knocked out earlier this season and there hasn't been so much football for him.
He needs it, as they all do. It's hard for young goalkeepers.
Judging by those comments, it seems that Caoimhín Kelleher is keen to leave Liverpool this summer.
The club are unlikely to let him go on the cheap, with a fee in excess of £25million reportedly required if they are to sanction the departure of the Ireland international.
