For the time being, the gap has been narrowed. Manchester United put in an industrious performance to see off Arsenal 3-1 today in what was an absolutely mental game. They are currently just 5 points off Man City, although City do have a game in hand.

Over the past three seasons, David De Gea has emerged to become one of the greatest Premier League goalkeepers in recent memory. Time and time again he has come to United's rescue and today was no different, pulling off several spectacular saves including one magnificent double-stop to limit Arsenal's efforts to a single goal.

According to Sky Sports, his 14 saves today is the most by a goalkeeper in the Premier League for this season and twice that of his previous most in a Premier League game in 2017-18, 7 v Chelsea. For context, Ederson has made 17 save so far in his Premier League career.

De Gea also has the most clean-sheets (9) than any other Premier League goalkeeper.

In the aftermath of the game his manager, Jose Mourinho described him as "the best in the world" a view shared by many online:

The Manchester shot-stopper is a shadow of the timid goalkeeper that first arrived from Spain. De Gea has become an incredibly well-rounded goalkeeper: great distribution, good commander of his area, a great defensive organiser.

He's proved it before and he'll no doubt prove it again, Dave really does save.
