With the PFA Team Of The Season released yesterday, it seems as though everybody is in agreement that this is probably the least controversial selection in recent memory. Perhaps Sergio Aguero was unlucky to miss out, but could you really drop Vardy or Kane?
Regardless, having seen the best XI, and considering that Aston Villa players pretty much make the creation of a 'Worst Premier League XI' redundant, a redditor by the name of kirikiriki has come up with an interesting alternative.
By taking the average rating for each position in the Premier League this season, and then matching it to the player in that position that has the closest average rating to the league average, we now have an XI of the most average players in the Premier League according to WhoScored.com:
You can't help but feel it would form a very balanced side if it ever played a match.
GK - Adrian - West Ham
RB - Glen Johnson - Stoke
CB - Federico Fernández - Swansea
CB - Gareth McAuley - West Brom
LB - Alberto Moreno - LiverpoolCDM - Gareth Barry - Everton
CDM - Victor Wanyama - SouthamptonRM - Aaron Lennon - Everton
CAM - Adam Lallana - Liverpool
LM - Max Gradel - BournemouthST - Andy Carroll - West Ham
Two Liverpool players, two Everton players, and Andy Carroll who has been in terrific form of late but took a while to rid the rust of another injury layoff.
The WhoScored.com ratings are certainly not the definitive rating system, as evidenced by the fact that David De Gea and Joe Hart actually come in below the league average, but that certainly does look an average Premier League team above..
