In less than six months on Leeside, Cork City midfielder Greg Bolger has both established himself as a crowd favourite at Turner's Cross and been named captain in the absence of John Dunleavy.
Bolger, again, was one of the best players on the park during City's 1-0 defeat to Genk in Belgium last night. The Wexford man's composure in possession again stood out, as the Rebels played some expressive attacking football on occasion in a spirited display, which at the very least keeps the tie alive for the return leg in Cork next week.
Speaking to his fellow Corkman Paul Dollery of The42.ie, City manager John Caulfield revealed that there's an interest in his stand-in captain from abroad, with Swedish Cup champions BK Hacken - who the Cork side dumped out of the Europa League last week - keen to accrue Bolger's services following his excellent displays in the second qualifying round:
Greg Bolger is a captain. He’s a leader, a fantastic player. BK Hacken want to sign him. He was the best player on the park in the two games there.
Hacken, however, will likely face a battle to secure the signing of the 27-year-old midfield maestro, of whom Caulfield remains a massive fan. He told Dollery:
Greg Bolger is a captain. He’s a leader, a fantastic player. BK Hacken want to sign him. He was the best player on the park in the two games there.
Bolger's contract at The Cross is understood to expire at the end of the current League of Ireland season.
