After 28 consecutive seasons in the top flight of English football, Aston Villa's relegation from the Premier League was confirmed on Saturday evening.
Following their 1-0 loss to Man Utd, Joleon Lescott said that with relegation assured, perhaps it would be a relief to the players and that they could finally put in some decent performances.
It was a comment which Stan Collymore - a former Aston Villa player - ridiculed.
Lescott: "Now confirmed maybe it's a weight off the shoulders and we can give these fans what they deserve, some performances." #avfc

Also, on his Talksport show, Collymore had a further go at Lescott and Co.
Why is it a weight off the shoulders Joleon?
It should hang on your shoulders when you’re in Dubai, in Marbs, with a gold bottle with and ace of spades on it when you and Gabby and Leandro are all going to be laughing when your agents go off and tout you to other football clubs.
That’s when the weight should be on your shoulders.
Also there’s the Villa staff, there’s real weight on their shoulders, people are getting made redundant, that have been there 20 years, that don’t know where the next pay cheque is going to come from.
While there was no interaction between Lescott and Collymore publicly on Twitter, the pair did converse via text messages. Collymore - accidentally on purpose - made the conversation public.
In February, Villa lost 6-0 to Liverpool. Shortly after the game, a picture of Joleon Lescott's Merc was tweeted from his account. Fans of the club were angered. The centre-back later claimed that the tweet was unintentional and had been caused due to his phone being in his pocket.
After deleting the private message, Collymore referenced Lescott's excuse.
Sorry, didn't mean to send that.
