The second round of the FA Cup is the final round before the Premier League sides enter. For cup purists, it is where the magic of the competition still lies.

There was high drama at Brisbane Road on Saturday afternoon, as Leyton Orient hosted Oldham. Irish goalkeeper Josh Keeley was to be the hero for the home side in the most unlikely of scenarios.

Irishman Josh Keeley the hero in sensational FA Cup tie

Oldham took the lead shortly after half-time, with Emmanuel Monthe firing the visitors in front.

They would hold on to their lead until deap into stoppage time, and surely thought they had the job done by the 98th minute. Josh Keeley had other ideas.

With every man thrown into the box in a hail Mary tactic, keeper Keeley rose highest to nod home a 99th-minute free-kick and send the tie to extra-time.

Incredibly, that was not the end of the drama. Oldham will wonder just how unlucky one team can be, as they would go on to lose in the 121st minute, thanks to Daniel Agyei's injury-time winner.

In the interim, Agyei had also missed a penalty, summing up the chaotic nature of a memorable FA Cup tie.

There was no disputing who Leyton Orient's hero was on the day, though.

Just 21 years old, Keeley hails from Dunboyne in County Meath.

He came up through the academy at St. Patrick's Athletic, lining out for their U19s side and making a single senior League of Ireland appearance in 2021.

In 2022, Keeley secured a major move to Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur, and has since spent a season on loan at Barnet.

This may well be the biggest spark yet in the youngster's career, however, in what has been an impressive loan campaign at Spurs' North London neighbours Leyton Orient.

Keeley will be familiar to regular viewers of Ireland's U21s team, having played regularly for Jim Crawford's side during their heartbreaking Euro 2025 qualification campaign.

A proud day for fans of St Pats and of Irish football in general.

The dramatic second-round win secures progression to the FA Cup third round for Leyton Orient for the first time in three years. There is every chance we could see Josh Keeley lining out against one of English football's biggest clubs in early January.
