St. Josephs Boys Apologise For Deleted Tweets About U10s Fixture With Cabinteely

St. Josephs Boys AFC are coming under fire for their tweets in the wake of an u10s fixture with local rivals Cabinteely.

Despite the FAI prohibiting the posting of results of non-competitive fixtures at the age group, the Sallynoggin club tweeted that their u10s had beaten Cabinteely 7-0 in what they described as a 'comprehensive' victory, and their fourth in as many games (in different age groups) against Cabinteely in the past week.

Having been heavily criticised for essentially lording a result achieved by nine-year-olds over another group of nine-year-olds, Joeys then tweeted the following:

However, as former Cork City chairman John O'Sullivan pointed out, the club hadn't posted an u10s result in over two years prior to yesterday's fixture with their near rivals.

Having put their account on private, Joeys then apologised for their tweets before deleting them, saying:

The club would like to apologise for any offence one of our tweets may have caused in posting our u10 result especially @Cabinteely_FC #fttg

While it's unlikely that any nine-year-olds will have been offended by the tweets, using an u10s friendly fixture seemingly to antagonise a rival club, for whatever reason, does seem a bit odd.

This morning's Herald also features a full match report of a friendly between the two Swords clubs in which one was heavily defeated.
