Perhaps desperate for a big move to actually happen in this summer's transfer window, several news outlets yesterday jumped on Tottenham's removal of Gareth Bale's picture from the club's Twitter background as a sign that he is on his way to Real Madrid, an image that also included recent departure Clint Dempsey.
It was a tedious story in a summer defined by tedious transfer sagas. Clearly fed up with the rumours, Spurs took to Twitter to clarify the issue, with increasing sarcasm.
