Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has come up with a unique way of explaining that his team are solely focused on themselves this season; by citing lyrics from a Britney Spears / Will.i.am song.
Pochettino faced questions regarding his team's current league position, potential title challenge as well as comparisons to bitter rivals Arsenal. Naturally, he used lyrics from a pop hit to describe his team's attitude.
“I think it’s like what Britney Spears and Will.i.am sing, ‘Everybody in the club, all eyes on us, all eyes on us’ ".
It's a strange way of putting it, that's for sure, but whatever they're doing seems to be working. Spurs have the youngest squad in the league and their form this season, coupled with their position in the top four, has Pochettino dreaming of potential league glory.
“In football everything can happen if we believe. We have a very strong squad and mentality. We are in a good place and only we need time to prove we have enough quality to challenge for the big things."
I think that most Tottenham fans would agree, musical taste aside, that their manager is doing an excellent job this season. They may be nine points off top spot but with over half of the season left to play that gap could easily be clawed back.
