Gavin Bazunu is now officially a Southampton player after completing his move from Manchester City for a fee that could rise to £15 million. City do have a buy-back option for Bazunu and will aso receive a 20% sell on clause on any future sale.

It's no doubt a great coup by Ralph Hasenhuettl's side who have secured the 20-year-old who has already earned 10 caps for his country.

The Irish shotstopper was an integral part of the Saints' south coast rival's Portsmouth's side last season and was named their Player of the Season last month.

Southampton's Twitter admin didn't take long to rub the signing of Gavin Bazunu in the face of his former side by quote tweeting their announcement of Bazunu winning the Player of the Year award, with an emoji that threw some shade Pompey's way.

Hassenhuettl said:

"As a club, we are always on the lookout for young talent and Gavin is a very exciting addition to the squad. We believe he has tremendous potential to improve and will give us great competition for places in the goalkeeping department.

"He is a goalkeeper with a very modern style of play, comfortable in the build-up phase, who has developed physically through some very important loan moves early in his career.

"He is already an international goalkeeper, which is very rare for his age. Coming from Manchester City, we know he has learned from some of the very best coaches and teammates, and coming here gives him more opportunities to develop his game through playing in the Premier League."

Bazunu also spoke about his decision to join the Premier League side.

"I’m delighted to be here. It’s been in the works for a few weeks and I’m really happy that we’ve got everything over the line, and I’m just excited to see what’s ahead.

"I feel like it’s a place I can come and develop and learn my game. The biggest thing is opportunity – the fact that I can come here and have a chance to play regular football. Just to be given that opportunity to fight for my place is the biggest thing that I could’ve asked for."

Gavin Bazunu's first game for his side could come next month in their pre season clash against Austria Klagenfurt on the 18th of July.
The Dubliner is already tipped for the top by nearly all Irish fans after some heroic performances between the sticks for the national team and a chance to play regular Premier League football will be a great opportunity for Bazunu to continue his rapid rise in football.
