With Morgan Schneiderlin joining Bastian Schweinsteiger and the rest of his Manchester United teammates on their pre-season tour of the US, Ronald Koeman has been working behind the scenes to fill the void that the French midfielder will leave in the middle of the park for Southampton.
And according to reports from Voetbal International, that task could already be completed as the Dutch publication are claiming a deal has been agreed with Eredivisie side Feyenoord for their captain and Holland international Jordy Clasie.
Clasie worked under Koeman from 2011 to 2014, so the move clearly makes sense, and he would offer a similar style of midfield play to Schneiderlin as he likes to conduct play from a deeper midfield position. Clasie, along with most Dutch internationals, had been linked with a move to Manchester United after they appointed Louis Van Gaal last summer, but he instead decided to continue as Feyenoord captain, with most fans accepting that he would move on this summer.
The fee is believed to be in the region of €12m, which would be typically good business for Southampton. Clasie would be joining compatriot Maarten Stekelenburg at Southampton after the goalkeeper joined on loan from Fulham following an injury to Fraser Forster which will see him sidelined for the early part of the season.
