The German team's surprisingly graceless reaction to Thursday's result has been one most striking aspects of the post-game shenanigans.
Balls.ie's Mikey Traynor had previously penned a love letter to Thomas Muller following his brace in Glasgow. Mikey is not currently in the office but it may be hard to conceal from him Muller's grudging post-match reaction. It is a riposte which will surely kill his boyish ardour for the German star stone dead.
Muller subscribed to the official German line on the game which was that Ireland 'only played long balls', an unfair reading of the match but one we've heard before from his manager.
However, he also found Ireland guilty of 'playacting' and 'timewasting'.
Ireland only defended and played long balls. We had decent chances and gave nothing away.
In the end we wasted too many chances and conceded an unnecessary goal from a mistake, coupled with a lot of play acting and a weak referee.
Even if it sounds stupid. We didn't play badly.
The play-acting claim is outrageous. We could talk about the Germans' late tackles. Check out this dreadful foul on Shane Long with five minutes left.
Sickening dirt from the Germans.
