Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes regarding Alex Sanchez what was often said about one of his former teammates at Old Trafford. Whenever on a dry streak, it was regularly posited that if he could get one goal - no matter the method - the floodgates would open for Andy Cole.
Speaking ahead of tonight's FA Cup tie between Manchester United and Chelsea, Solskajer expressed a similar sentiment about Sanchez. The Norwegian found a quaint line to express it too: he compared Sanchez to an uncooperative bottle ketchup.
"If he could just get that goal I’m sure that would release his confidence," the current Manchester United manager is quoted as saying by the Telegraph.
That’s what it’s about when you go through periods when you don’t perform up to your standard because we know there is a very good player there.
You have that bottle of ketchup when it never comes out, but when it suddenly comes there’s loads of it. When it comes I’m sure he’ll be fine.
He’s a man of 30, but he can still play for many, many years. He’s been here for a year, I’ve been here for two months with him, and he’s been injured for the first part of it, so it’s unfair to just expect him to be at the top straight away. I’m sure we’ll see the best of him before the end of the season.
With just two goals to his name this season - and five overall in 34 games since moving to Old Trafford - it's easy to be sceptical about how much there is actually left in Sanchez's bottle.
