In all the analysis of the Tories' surprising election victory in the UK last month, they forgot to give a shout out to one of their most rock solid constituencies.
Professional footballers.
From Jon Walters to Karl Henry to Frank Lampard, one suspects that the Tories won big among PFA members. That is one union that goes blue.
Gone are the days when clubs in England were filled with working class Labour voting terriers from Glasgow.
Labour appeared to alienate many professional footballers with their proposed mansion tax.
For those unfortunate enough not to be worried about such a tax, Ed Miliband announced in 2013 that he would introduce a mansion tax which would go hand in hand with a tax decrease for low earners.
Sol Campbell lashed Labour out of it for this 'tax on aspiration'. Opposition to the mansion tax is something of a cause celebre for Campbell.
He went on the Daily Politics to debate a Labour MP on the merits and de-merits of the proposal.
Labour’s plans hit those properties valued at over £2million will penalise those individuals who have done well for themselves. Ed Miliband keeps banging on about fairness in society but this tax is anything but fair. And its flawed.
It was the mansion tax issue which prompted Campbell to join the Conservative party. Today, Campbell announced he will contest the party nomination for Mayor when Boris Johnson steps down next year.
He'll have a job canvassing in North London.
Serious question. Would Spurs or Chelsea fans vote for Sol Campbell?

I wonder if Sol Campbell's mayoral bid will be harmed by 'shy Spurs fans'?

Not for the first time, it appears Sol Campbell is having a Mayor.

Please let Sol Campbell's mayoral campaign be the one vote that Arsenal fans don't rig.

Given his previous, wouldn't surprise me if Sol Campbell swapped to the Reds if he thought it would give him a better chance of winning
