Sol Campbell is not a happy man. The former Arsenal defender was rebuffed for the Oxford united job, the League One club opting instead for former Newcastle bad boy Craig Bellamy.
Campbell's only experience coaching is that of assistant to Dennis Lawrence who manages Trinidad & Tobago. But listening to Campbell speak, you would think the man has a cabinet full of highest honours available to a football manager.
Speaking to Arsenal podcast Highbury & Heels, Campbell reveals why he was knocked back for the vacant managerial position at the U's:
I did go (for the Oxford job) and they didn't accept me.
Maybe it was a lack of experience, things like that, but it's a full circle. Experience? How do I get experience? Well, I need a job to get experience.
Campbell grapes then went decidedly more sour as the ex-England international went on a rant where he claimed that he doesn't get jobs because he speaks his mind too much:
I'm intelligent enough, it's not like I played on a fox and dog pitch all my life. I can't believe some people, I'm one of the greatest minds in football and I'm being wasted because of a lack of experience or "maybe he talks his mind too much".
Go to Germany, they love people who speak their minds. They got the jobs. I'm sorry that I've got a mind, but don't be scared of that. That should be something you want at your club, but obviously not.
'One of the greatest minds in football?' David Brentian by the former centre back. Though Campbell does have previous for grandiose behaviour. Once asked about how he is viewed in England, Campbell came out with this gem:
Football-wise, I'm more respected around the world than in my own country. It's true. If I had this type of career somewhere else, I'd probably be a sir in that country by now.
In the wake of Campbell's claims, Jamie Carragher proffered Campbell's genius as the reason for his modest England career.
No wonder he kept me out of the England team! https://t.co/UxITb6TNul
