Slaven Bilic is a popular man in East London. Well, he's a popular man in the West Ham supporting areas of East London, there's so many football teams in London. Anyway, Slaven Bilic is currently doing a really, really good job as manager of West Ham United.
After already claiming victories away to Arsenal and Liverpool, the Hammers picked up another impressive away win at the Etihad Stadium this past weekend, as they ended Manchester City's perfect start to the season with a 2-1 victory.
After the game, Bilic was talking to the press when he came up with a fantastic quote to describe how beating Man City felt. Normally you hear the stock answers that involve something about taking the momentum into the next game, but Slaven Bilic isn't your normal cliché-loving manager. It's safe to say we've never heard this one before.
I don’t know how long this is going to last. The one advantage we have is that we have flair players who fight for the team. Players like Payet and Lanzini are running for the team right at the end and it’s not common for these types of players to do that. They tend to be more flashy.
That’s why we are winning games and it’s a good feeling – it’s like walking into a pub full of girls.
A fantastic simile. Well played Slaven.
West Ham are certainly enjoyable to watch at the moment and Dimitri Payet is proving to be this season's "must-have" fantasy football signing, and if this is the type of stuff that Bilic is going to come out with if they keep on playing like this, then long may it continue.
