Sky Sports Pundits Tear Into Spurs Players After Five-Goal Capitulation At Newcastle

This afternoon's meeting of Newcastle United and Spurs was billed as a potentially huge fixture in the top four race.

Eddie Howe's side held the advantage, but a victory from Spurs at St James' Park would have put them right back into the hunt. While their form has been poor in recent times, their supporters would have hoped that they could raise their performance levels for what was a massive game.

That went well.

Not only would Spurs concede inside the opening two minutes of the game, but they would ship FIVE goals in the first 21 minutes.

Newcastle were playing very well, but the way in which the visitors completely capitulated in the opening exchanges was nothing short of remarkable.

Not great.

Sky Sports pundits hammer Spurs over Newcastle capitulation

Speaking on Sky Sports News, former Ireland striker Clinton Morrison could hardly believe what he was seeing from Spurs as the fifth goal went in.

He could get sacked before halftime, that's how bad it is at the moment...

It's 5-0 after 20 minutes of football. This is Tottenham Hotspur we're talking about and they've conceded five goals after 20 minutes. Come on.

I can't believe they're fifth in the Premier League. It's embarrassing.

Somebody needs to step up. You can't blame Harry Kane because he's at the other end of the pitch. I feel sorry for the attacking players, they've not been in the game apart from one chance.

When you're losing 2-0 or 3-0, someone has got to say to the group of players 'lets stay together'...

It's embarrassing at the moment.

He wasn't the only one.

Speaking on Sky Sports at halftime, both Kieron Dyer and Danny Rose did not hold back in his assessment of Tottenham.

Dyer: There was a lot made about Conte when he came out with his outburst about the Spurs players. This is why
(he did it). Everything he said in that press conference has come through.

Spurs cost their manager his job they're that bad. We touched on the fullbacks and them being a problem, the centre halves have been poor, the midfielders have been poor. Oliver Skipp is the only one trying a leg and they got put to the sword...

Rose: There have been many mistakes. All I've been thinking about in that first half is 'how am I unemployed?'

To be 5-0 after 20 minutes is unheard of for someone who is supposedly a massive club...

Dyer: Spurs have been so poor. They've let the fans down, they've let everyone associated with the club down. It took half an hour for them to change it back to a back five, the game was over.

The decision to sack Antonio Conte was understandable one, but the move to keep Critstian Stellini in charge was baffling. Their season has since gone from worse to worse, with this making a new low for the club in the current campaign.

You'd imagine that this performance will not be well received in North London.
