Sky's claim that their Sky Sports 5 channel is the 'home of European football' is looking more and more ludicrous.

According to the Telegraph, Sky have pulled out of the bidding for La Liga rights for the next three years. This was after they refused to increase their offer when the bidding went to a second round.

That means BT Sport is on the verge of becoming the new home of El Clasico for Irish fans of the Spanish game.

Considering that Sky have already lost the Champions League to BT, it is a major surprise that they are not going all out to retain coverage of La Liga. BT has exclusive rights to to both the Champions League and Europa League for the next three seasons.

Apart from the Premier League and the Football League, Sky's stable of European club football for this season would include Scottish football and the Dutch Eeredivisie.

This pales in comparison to BT having Serie A, Bundesliga, Ligue 1, the Portuguese Premiera Liga and the Swiss Super League along with the Champions League and Europa League.
