Sports fans have been eagerly waiting for more details on the news that Sky would become BT's exclusive distribution partner in Ireland from this summer. Today, those details have been revealed with Sky launching a new 'Sports Extra' package which will include the BT Sport 1, 2 and 3 channels, as well as Premier Sports 1 & 2, and ESPN.
The Sports Extra package will be available from 1 August and cost new and existing Sky Sports customers €10 a month, while non Sky Sports customers can avail of the subscription for €17 a month - both of which are half price six month offers.
BT Sport's stand-out coverage over the coming sporting season will include: 52 Premier League games, UEFA Champions League and Europa League, and Champions Cup and Challenge Cup rugby. Meanwhile, Premier Sports will have 53 Premier League matches this season, including 3pm kick-offs, with Southampton v Everton the first of those on 10 August.
In total, 233 Premier League matches will be available across the Sky Sports and Sports Extra packages. While the new package will not be available until 1 August, those interested can pre-register here. For Eir customers, this means that BT Sport will no longer be part of their package after the end of this month.
