Sky Sports have had to surrender a portion of their live games over the years, to Setanta in years past and to BT Sport over the last couple of years.
And now another channel are coming for them.
Discovery Communications Inc, which began back in 1985 as just a single channel, The Discovery Channel, is making a play for Premier League rights from 2016 onwards, according to Bloomberg.
The idea sounds curious given that the company is largely associated with documentaries on antelopes, cheetahs and the Serengeti, but they have already gained majority control of Eurosport and are attempting to bid for French rugby coverage. Last year, it made a failed bid to screen Serie A matches.
The competition will likely push the price for acquiring rights even higher.
