An interesting story has emerged ahead of David Beckham's appearance on The Graham Norton Show, due to air on Friday night, which involves the former England captain and an issue that legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson had with his haircut.
The "David Beckham Haircut" was all the rage with young lads towards the end of the '90s, and Becks was always known for taking a great deal of pride in his appearance, but when he sported a Mohawk ahead of Manchester United's Charity Shield clash with Chelsea in 2000, Sir Alex was not at all impressed.
I was in the dressing room with an hour to go before kick off when Sir Alex Ferguson saw it and made me shave it off. I said no at first and then I saw his face change very quickly so I went and shaved it off in the toilet. He was very strict.
Beckham then continued to admit that some of his haristyle decisions were not fully thought-out:
Some of them have been really bad – I hadn’t thought them through. The topknot wasn’t too bad but the cornbraids were a bad decision. It was bad timing as well as I was going to South Africa at the time with England and ended up meeting Nelson Mandela so that’s why I regret that one.
Of course, Beckham would go on to feel the wrath of Ferguson a few more times before his United career ended in 2003, but the image of one of the World's most famous people shaving his head because his boss told him to is a funny one.
