Simon Kjaer is a name you are probably familiar with, as he is one of those player who was talked up as the next big thing in his youth, only to never kick on and join a top European club.
The Danish defender first emerged as a top talent during his time at Palermo, where he was constantly linked with moves to the likes of Juventus, Inter Milan, and even some of the big English clubs, but instead he moved to Wolfsburg, and then on to Lille in France.
Kjaer's performances in France had seen him reappear as a transfer target for a number of clubs, including Liverpool, who did in fact make an offer for him this summer, but instead Kjaer will be moving to Turkey to join Fenerbache, and speaking to the Turkish media, he revealed why:
Liverpool wanted me, but I want championships, I want to win trophies. Fenerbahce's goals this season are big, and it was explained to me very well.
Ouch.
Clearly whoever is in charge of explaining Liverpool's goals for this season isn't doing a very good job.
Of course, it could just be that Kjaer is talking out of his arse to make himself look good, but you'd have to hope he's not that sad.
Liverpool did this week announce a double re-enforcement of their defence as they tied down Martin Skrtel to a new deal and brought in a promising talent from Charlton, but if their potential transfer targets are turning them down to play in Turkey, it could be a long summer for all involved at the club.
