David Silva took a knock to his injured ankle in what looked like an innocuous encounter with West Brom's Morgan Amalfitano.
He was stretchered off in some considerable pain and was substituted by James Milner, who Silva had replaced in the starting XI this evening.
If his stricken reaction was anything to go by, Silva's season - including his World Cup - could well be over.
City won the encounter 3-1. West Brom offered little resisitance in the second half, but they did score a magnificent goal early on courtesy of Scotland's Graham Dorrans.
As it stands, City lie third on 74 points from 34 matches after tonight's game - six points behind Liverpool, with a game in hand on both the Reds and Chelsea.
