There was a bit of a political undertone at the Nou Camp last night during Barcelona's Champions League opener against Apoel Nicosia. One fan showed his support for Scotland's campaign for independence by waving their national flag alongside the flag of Catalonia.
That being said, there is a slight chance that then fan was not trying to make a political statement at all. He could easily just have ties with both Catalonia and Tenerife. The island in the Canaries has the exact same flag as Scotland.
The Scots go to poll on the historic referendum today and the Catalans will be watching the vote closely to see if they can use the result to force their own push for independence from Spain.
