Last December Izzy Dezu tragically passed away. Dezu collapsed while playing for Shelbourne in a Dublin and District Schoolboys League U16 match against St Kevin’s Boys.
At the time the club released this statement:
We are heartbroken to have to confirm the news that our academy U16 player, Izzy Dezu, collapsed and died during a match last night.
The thoughts of everyone at Shelbourne FC are with his family and friends who have been devastated by his tragic loss. May he rest in peace.
Following the teenagers tragic passing, the Dublin club have revealed they will be commemorating Dezu by having IZZY appear under the crest on their jersey for their 2018 home kit.
A statement on Shelbourne's website read:
In addition to featuring DCU's logo, our home shirt for 2018 also includes a tribute below the crest to our U16 Academy player, Izzy Dezu, who died while playing for the club in December.
Our partnership with @DublinCityUni was launched in Tolka Park on Thursday. Cian Kavanagh, Dean Delany and James O’Brien are pictured here in the new kits.
