Shelbourne confirmed on Wednesday morning that their U16 Academy player Izzy Dezu tragically died during a match on Tuesday night.
In a statement released via Twitter, the club said:
We are heartbroken to have to confirm the news that our Academy U16 player, Izzy Dezu, collapsed and died during a match last night.
The thoughts of everyone at Shelbourne FC are with his family and friends who have been devastated by his tragic loss.
May he rest in peace.
RTÉ report that the 16-year-old was taken ill during the second half of the game against St. Kevin's Boys. Dublin Fire Brigade paramedics attended to the young player at the game before he was taken to Beaumont Hospital.
